Working with a web designer in another country

Plenty of people hire a remote web designer without a second thought, and plenty of others still worry about it. Distance changes a few practical things and leaves the important ones alone. Here is how a project runs when you and the designer are in different countries.

Does the designer need to be in my city?

For a website, almost never. Nothing in the work needs a shared room: the design is a file, the site is online, and the content travels by message. What a local designer offers is comfort, and sometimes knowledge of your market. Both are worth something. But they are not the same as skill, and you can test market knowledge with a few questions.

How do we talk without meetings?

In writing, mostly, and that is an advantage. A written message can be reread, forwarded to a partner and found again months later. Agree at the start which channels the project uses and what goes where, for example decisions and files by email and quick questions by chat. A call is useful now and then. A record is useful every day.

How do I follow the work?

You should be able to see it, not hear about it. The design should arrive as a link you can open and comment on, and the build should be visible at a private address before it goes public. If updates come only as "it is going well", ask to look. Distance is not a problem when the work itself is in front of you.

How does payment work across borders?

Ask which methods the designer accepts and check that at least one works easily from your country and your bank. Agree the stages of payment in writing and what each stage delivers. Ask also about stopping: is there a period in which you can leave the project and be refunded? Clear terms matter more when there is no office to walk into.

What about language, market and time difference?

Ask whether the designer has built for your language and your part of the world. An Arabic site reads right to left, and that affects every layout decision, not only the text. Ask what a normal reply time is, so a difference in working hours becomes a known delay and not a worry. A stated reply time is worth more than a shared time zone.

How I handle it

I have delivered more than 210 projects since 2020 for clients across the Arab world, Europe and America, so distance is nothing new in how I work. The project runs over email and WhatsApp and I reply within 24 hours. You see the design in Figma and approve it before the build. Payment is by Vodafone Cash, InstaPay, bank transfer or PayPal, and for the first seven days you can stop the project and be refunded in full. Tell me where you are and what you need.
