Ready-made store or one designed for you?

Ready-made store or one designed for you?

A ready made online store is a theme with your logo, colours and products placed inside it. A designed store is drawn around what you sell before anything is built. Both are honest options, and the right one depends on where your business stands today.

What exactly is a ready-made store?

It is a storefront that already exists as a theme on your platform. Someone installs it, changes the colours, uploads the logo and adds the products. The layout, the order of the sections and the product page were decided by the maker of the theme, for stores in general. It can look good, and it can be live quickly, because nothing has to be drawn first.

When is ready-made the right choice?

When you are testing an idea and do not yet know whether it will sell. When the products are standard and need little explanation. When opening soon matters more than standing apart. In those cases a clean theme, set up carefully, is a sensible start, and I would say so to anyone who asks. Spending on design before the idea is proven is not always wise.

Where does a ready-made store start to pinch?

Usually in three places. The theme was drawn around its own sample photos and short sample texts, so your real content sits in it awkwardly. Other stores use the same theme, so yours looks like theirs with a different logo. And when you need a section the theme does not have, you are told it cannot be done, or it is forced in and looks like a patch.

What does a designed store change?

The starting point. Instead of asking which theme is closest, the design asks what your buyer needs to see and in what order. The home page leads with what you are known for. The product page answers the questions your product raises, whether that is sizing, ingredients or how it is installed. The brand shows in the details, not only in the logo.

Can I start ready-made and redesign later?

Yes, and it is a fair path. On hosted platforms the products, customers and orders generally live in the store admin, while the storefront design sits on top of them. That means the look can be replaced later without entering the catalogue again. Confirm the details for your platform with whoever does the redesign, and keep your photos and texts organised from the first day so the move is easy.

How do I decide?

Ask three questions. Is the idea already selling somewhere, even through social media? Is the brand part of what people pay for, as it is with gifts, fashion or anything premium? Do your products need explaining before someone buys? The more times you answer yes, the more sense a designed store makes. If all three are no, start simple and return to design later.

How I handle it

The stores I build are designed, not installed. Each one starts as a Figma file drawn around your products and your buyer, and the build on Salla, Shopify or WooCommerce begins only after you approve it. You receive the dashboard and edit products, prices, texts and images yourself. If you are in the first seven days of the project and decide it is not for you, you can stop and get the payment back in full. Tell me where your store stands now, and I will tell you honestly which route I would take.
