How to choose who builds your website: 7 questions to ask first

Most problems with a website project are decided before it starts. These are the seven questions I would ask anyone, including me, before agreeing to anything.

1. Will I see the design before anything is built?

A site should be drawn before it is built. Ask to see every page as a design first, and ask whether building starts only after you approve it. If the first thing you are shown is a finished theme with your logo dropped in, you are choosing from someone else's layout, not getting your own.

2. Will I be able to edit it myself?

Ask exactly what you can change after handover without calling anyone: text, images, products, prices, posts. A site you cannot update yourself turns every small change into a new invoice.

3. Which platform, and why that one?

The answer should be about what you will run afterwards, not about what the builder happens to know. A site you edit yourself, a store, and an idea that needs its own system each belong on a different base.

4. What happens after launch?

Ask how long support lasts, counted in days, and what it covers. "We are always here" is not an answer. A clear one names a period and says it covers anything that breaks and anything that behaves differently from what was agreed.

5. Can I stop if it is not working?

Ask whether there is a window in which you can stop the project and get your payment back, and how long it is. The terms should be set before any work starts.

6. Is the work real and online?

Ask for links to live sites, not pictures of them. Open them on your phone. A real project has a real address, real content and a real owner.

7. How will we talk, and how do I pay?

Agree where the project runs (email, WhatsApp) and which payment methods work from your country before you start.

How I answer them

Every project I take starts as a Figma file that you approve before the build. You get the dashboard and can change the content yourself. Support runs for 180 days from the day the site goes live, and for the first seven days of a project you can stop it and have the payment returned in full.
