What decides the price of a website

What decides the price of a website

People ask about website design cost and hope for a single figure. There is none, and anyone who gives one before hearing about the project is selling a package, not quoting your site. What I can give you is the list of things that move the figure up or down.

Is it the number of pages?

Less than you would think. What counts is the number of different layouts. All your blog posts share one layout, so they are one piece of design. Pages that each look and work differently are separate pieces, one for each. When you describe your site, count the kinds of page, not the pages: home, a service page, a project page, an article, contact.

How much does the design method matter?

A great deal. Adjusting a ready theme is one job. Drawing every layout around your content, having it approved, then building it to match is a larger one. Both produce a website. They do not produce the same website, and they should not carry the same figure. When two quotes differ widely, this is the first place to look.

What do functions add?

Anything the site does beyond showing information. A booking system, online payment, a members area, search with filters, a form that feeds another system. Each has to be chosen, set up, styled to match and tested. A site that only presents is simpler than a site that processes something, even when the two look alike on the surface.

Who is supplying the content?

If you arrive with final text and good photos, the project is design and build. If the text has to be written, edited or translated, and images found or prepared, that is extra work for someone, and it should be named in the quote one way or the other. A second language is not a copy of the first. An Arabic and English site is laid out in two directions.

Does the deadline change the price?

It can. A normal schedule lets a designer plan your project among others. A tight date means moving other work aside or working longer days, and many designers charge for that. If your date is flexible, say so. If it is fixed, say that too, along with what could be left for a second phase.

What about after launch?

A quote that includes a defined support period, training on editing and a clear handover is covering work that another quote may leave out. Before you compare figures, check that both describe the same thing: what is delivered, what you can change yourself, and for how long someone answers when a problem appears.

How I handle it

Whatever the size of the site, the same things are part of the work: a design made in Figma that you approve before the build, a dashboard you use to edit the text, images and posts yourself, and 180 days of support counted from the day the site goes live. For the first seven days you can stop the project and get your payment back in full. Tell me what your site has to do, and I will reply within 24 hours with what it involves.
