What decides the price of an online store

Online store design cost is harder to guess than the cost of an ordinary site, because a store is a working system and not only pages. The figure follows the amount of setup behind the storefront as much as the look of it. These are the parts that move it.
How does the platform affect it?
A hosted platform such as Salla or Shopify gives you the store engine ready, for a subscription you pay to the platform. The design work is shaping the storefront on top of it. WooCommerce runs on your own WordPress hosting, so there is more to install and configure, and more freedom in return. The same store can be a different amount of work on each base.
Does the number of products matter?
The count matters less than the variety. A large catalogue of one kind of product follows one pattern. A catalogue with sizes, colours, bundles, digital items and products made to order needs each type thought through, displayed properly and tested at checkout. Ask yourself how many kinds of product you have. That number says more about the work than the total.
Who enters the products?
Someone has to add every product with its name, description, photos, options and price. It is slow, careful work. Some store owners do it themselves after being shown how. Others want it done for them. Either is fine, but it is a real part of the project, and a quote should say clearly which of you is doing it.
How much design does the storefront need?
Using a ready theme with your colours and logo is the light end. Designing the home page, category page, product page and cart around your products and brand is the heavy end. Banners and graphics count here as well. A store that depends on brand feeling needs more of this than one selling on convenience.
What about payment, delivery and tax settings?
Connecting payment methods, setting delivery zones and charges, and preparing order messages are part of making the store work. How involved it is depends on your country, the providers you choose and what the platform supports. For anything touching tax or legal requirements, the store can be set up to match the rules, but confirm what those rules are with a qualified professional.
Are languages and moving from an old store extra?
Usually. A second language means every product, page and message exists twice and the layout works in both directions. Moving from another platform means carrying products, customers and sometimes old orders across, and checking them. Both are worth doing properly, and both should appear as their own line in the quote.
How I handle it
I build stores on Salla, Shopify and WooCommerce, and the storefront is designed in Figma first so you approve it before the build. After handover you add and change products, prices, text and images from the dashboard yourself. Support runs 180 days from the day the store goes live. Tell me what you sell, where your buyers are and how many kinds of product you have, and I will reply within 24 hours.
